Pipeline Designer – Detroit, MI (Hybrid)
Join Kleinfelder to design natural gas distribution systems in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. The role includes developing drawings and exhibits for design, permitting, land acquisition, operation, maintenance, and construction of natural gas pipelines.
Responsibilities- Use the latest version of CAD software to prepare design drawings with plan, section, detail views, isometrics, and schematics.
- Prepare sketches to reflect as-installed field conditions when existing drawings are insufficient.
- Create pipeline alignment sheets, exhibits, and permit drawings for construction projects.
- Prepare and review drawings, forms, maps, and lists based on direction from lead drafters and engineers.
- Maintain project communication and coordinate with other work groups and clients.
- Provide accurate time estimates and complete job summaries and construction notes for engineer review.
- Ensure drawings meet design and constructability standards and prepare exhibits for permitting purposes.
- Meet required deadlines and exceed client expectations.
- Associate degree and CAD certification.
- Minimum 4 years of relevant experience.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Plant 3D, or CAD Worx.
- Current version of CAD software experience required.
- ArcGIS understanding preferred.
- Proficient in MS Outlook, MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong self-starter with ability to work independently under conflicting deadlines.
- Excellent teamwork skills.
- Knowledge of document control applications such as Vault or Project Wise preferred.
- Experience in drafting quality drawings and conducting peer reviews.
- Understanding of utility business practices preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret maps, plat maps, as-builts, construction drawings, and gas service records.
- Effective written and verbal communication.
