Kleinfelder, a Forbes' Top Employer for Engineers in North America, provides high-quality solutions to natural gas utilities and pipeline operators. We are looking for a Pipeline Engineer based in Detroit, MI, to join our engineering team.

Hybrid work schedule available.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare pipeline designs, including calculations, drawings, profiles, details, layouts, and studies from field inspections, preliminary sketches, specifications, and instructions.
  • Review pipeline and facility designs, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and design criteria.
  • Acquire and analyze data using standard quantitative methods for gas system network and hydraulic analysis.
  • Prepare construction specifications and bid packages.
  • Perform pipeline design and material selection, alternative and feasibility studies.
  • Develop status reports with task completion, progress, challenges, and solutions.
  • Coordinate with team members, clients, and subcontractors; oversee inspection and testing methods, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Manage internal resources, drafting staff, and administrative staff.
  • Provide guidance, instruction, and coaching to entry‑level and other engineers.
  • Assist in determining schedule and budget requirements and support business development and marketing initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering.
  • 4–8 years of relevant experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
  • Working knowledge of CAD and GIS software.
  • Strong technical communication skills.
  • Proficiency with MS Outlook, Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint.
  • Understanding of utility business operations.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of Code of Federal Regulations Title 42 Part 192.
