Test Technician, I – Detroit, Michigan

We are looking for a talented Test Technician, I. You will be responsible for operating a dynamometer and running tests to gather data on multiple applications to ensure data meets design specifications established by customers.

Main Responsibilities
  • Set up mechanical, hydraulic, or electric test equipment in accordance with engineering specifications, standards, or test procedures.
  • Ensure fixtures for the parts, measurements, and pictures are appropriate and validated to ensure function and fit exist.
  • Monitor machine‑controlled test equipment to ensure the test is performing as expected.
  • Ensure test results are complete and accurate.
  • Inspect or test parts to determine the nature or cause of defects or malfunctions.
  • Document and report all defects or malfunctions so appropriate decisions can be made by customers and engineers.
  • Document test results using cameras, spreadsheets, documents, or other tools as required.
  • Prepare test parts including mapping of rotors and brake pads.
  • Assist other departments as needed for setups and teardowns of various test equipment.
  • Ensure work is performed in a safe manner using all available safety equipment.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.
  • Possess mental faculties consistent with performing the minimum requirements of the job.

Qualifications
  • Associate of Science in Engineering Technology or a related field preferred.
  • High school diploma.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in an automotive engineering laboratory or equivalent related work experience.
  • Completed coursework in digital electronics, circuit functions, and basic electronics preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Proven knowledge of the practical application of Engineering Science and Technology – including applying principles, techniques, and procedures to equipment for production.
  • Analytical, observant, and communicative to handle the precise nature of the work.
  • Identify complex problems and review related information to develop, evaluate options, and implement solutions.
  • Ability to use a computer.
Physical Requirements
  • Hands‑on work in a testing environment; lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, stooping, crouching, reaching, hand‑eye coordination, manual dexterity, or standing for long periods of time.
  • Ability to speak verbally, and read in English.
  • Ability to see with corrective lenses.
  • Ability to hear.
  • Ability to walk.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% domestically.
  • Normal hazards related to working in an office, manufacturing, and testing environment.
  • Normal hazards related to road and air travel.
