The Controls Engineer will support vehicle controls and software development, electronics integration, and system commissioning. This role utilizes fundamental engineering knowledge and best practices to support the design and development of control algorithms while performing assignments with minimal instruction and guidance from senior engineers and managers. The Controls Engineer will contribute to the development of prototype and concept vehicles, with a strong focus on vehicle electrification, autonomous vehicles, and unmanned vehicle platforms.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interact with current and prospective customers regarding vehicle control systems and engineering solutions.
  • Support planning, scheduling, and program management activities for internal and customer projects.
  • Provide technical feedback on product improvements, customer needs, and engineering processes.
Controls Development
  • Define controls architecture, platform, and system functionality.
  • Develop control algorithms for vehicle systems using a Simulink environment.
  • Develop, test, and validate control system performance through modeling, bench testing, and vehicle testing.
  • Integrate and commission prototype control systems in development vehicles.
System Simulation & Modeling
  • Develop multi-domain models of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic systems.
  • Analyze system performance metrics and validate models using test data.
  • Correlate simulation models with physical test results.
  • Utilize simulation models to develop and refine control algorithms.
System Hardware Specification
  • Support the design, selection, and integration of electronic control hardware.
  • Communicate mechanical system requirements to design engineering teams.
  • Identify controller hardware that meets system I/O and computational requirements.
  • Define wiring and connector requirements to support harness design and integration.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Mechatronic Systems.
  • Minimum of 3 years of engineering experience in controls, embedded systems, or related engineering disciplines.
  • Strong technical writing, communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint).
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary engineering team.

Physical Demands
  • Position requires light physical activity.
Work Schedule
  • Monday through Friday, daytime schedule.
  • Infrequent evening and weekend work may be required to support project deadlines.
  • Occasional travel and on-site customer support as required.
