Commissioning Engineer

Job Description

This Commissioning Engineer role focuses on delivering high-quality EPMS, SCADA, and industrial automation solutions for mission-critical facilities. You will lead the commissioning of power monitoring and automation systems, validate system performance, and support successful turnover to operations. This is a 5‑month project based in Michigan, working with advanced EPMS, automation, and power monitoring technologies on complex, high-impact projects alongside highly experienced engineers.

Responsibilities

+ Lead factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), and integrated systems testing for EPMS, SCADA, and related automation systems.

+ Validate data accuracy, alarm functionality, device communications, and reporting performance across power monitoring and automation platforms.

+ Integrate power monitoring devices and intelligent electronic devices (IEDs) into EPMS and SCADA systems.

+ Interpret and work from one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, panel drawings, and electrical specifications to support commissioning activities.

+ Support SCADA/HMI design, controls integration, and configuration of industrial communication networks.

+ Provide troubleshooting support during commissioning and operational turnover to ensure reliable system performance.

+ Collaborate with project teams in data center and other mission-critical facility environments to ensure systems meet design and performance requirements.

+ Manage multiple concurrent projects in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high level of safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.

+ Demonstrate strong leadership and problem-solving skills when addressing technical issues and coordinating commissioning tasks.

+ Maintain clear, professional communication with internal teams and customers through verbal updates, written documentation, and customer-facing interactions.

Essential Skills

+ Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

+ 4 years of experience in EPMS, SCADA, industrial automation, power monitoring, or mission-critical facility engineering.

+ Strong understanding of electrical distribution systems and data center infrastructure.

+ Experience integrating power monitoring devices and intelligent electronic devices (IEDs).

+

Experience with SCADA/HMI design, controls integration, and industrial communication networks.

+ Ability to interpret one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, panel drawings, and electrical specifications.

+ Strong verbal, written, and customer-facing communication skills.

+ Strong leadership and problem-solving abilities.

+ Commitment to safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.

+ Ability to manage multiple projects in fast-paced critical facility environments.

+ High level of accountability, technical expertise, and attention to detail.

Experience with commissioning, PLC programming, and automation.

Additional

Skills & Qualifications

+

Experience with Schneider Electric Power Monitoring Expert (PME).

+ Experience working in data center BMS/EPMS environments.

+ Knowledge of Rockwell, Emerson, Schneider Electric, or Ignition automation platforms.

+ NICET, ISA CAP, Schneider Electric, Ignition, or Rockwell certifications.

+

Experience with VMware, Windows Server, Active Directory, and virtualized EPMS environments.

Work Environment

This is a 5‑month project based in Michigan, working five 8‑hour days per week with the potential for additional overtime depending on project demands, which may vary week to week. The role is primarily located in a manufacturing facility where you will be involved in building skids that will be deployed to mission-critical sites such as data centers and other critical infrastructure locations.

You will work with leading EPMS, automation, and power monitoring technologies in a hands-on environment, collaborating closely with experienced engineers on complex, high-impact projects. The setting emphasizes safety, quality, and precision, with a strong focus on reliable system performance for critical facilities.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Detroit, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $60.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
