Tandem is recruiting for a FULL-TIME POSITION as a Mechanical Engineer – HVAC / Building Systems with a minimum of 7+ years’ experience to support our clients' projects in our DETROIT, MI location.

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a Mechanical Engineering Technology diploma with equivalent experience.

• Minimum 7–10 years of mechanical engineering design experience in building systems, including:
• Heating, ventilation, air conditioning, boilers, hot water, chillers, chilled water, pumps, hydronic piping, ductwork layout, natural gas, plumbing, domestic water, sanitary piping, storm piping, and energy conservation initiatives.
• Strong understanding of consulting engineering project phases: feasibility studies, schematic design, detailed design, construction documents, tendering, construction/administration, and project close-out.
• Demonstrated experience designing for clients in educational, commercial, industrial, and healthcare markets.
• Demonstrated senior-level involvement in construction project management
  , including coordination with contractors and other disciplines.

• Advanced knowledge of local and national codes and standards, including: OBC, NBC, ASHRAE, NFPA, CSA, ASPE, TSSA, etc.
• Experience reading, developing, and editing project specifications (NMS, MS, etc.).
• Good knowledge and understanding of mechanical systems building design, codes, and specifications, with the ability to interpret and apply them independently.

• Proficient with AutoCAD and the Autodesk Suite
  .
• Strong experience in Revit for building systems design; experience with BIM 360 is considered an asset.
• Experience in selecting HVAC equipment and coordinating selections with manufacturers’ representatives.
• Experience in heating and cooling load calculations and with HAP, Trace, or similar load analysis software.
• Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite and related programs.

• Demonstrated ability to lead projects
  , coordinate multi-discipline teams, and manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
• Experience preparing status reports, reviewing specifications and drawings, verifying contractor work, and managing project deadlines.
• High level of analytical ability to solve unusual and complex mechanical design problems.
• Sound management skills and enjoyment of working on the technical aspects of building design projects in a fast-paced, supportive, multi-disciplinary environment.
• Some experience in facilities operations and maintenance is an asset.

• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Able to communicate ideas and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical team members and clients.
• Strong planning, organizational, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
