Group Controller

Mission

The Group Controller is responsible for overseeing finance operations across two manufacturing sites in Michigan, acting as a strategic partner to both operational and project leadership teams. This role serves as the lead finance authority across sites, driving financial predictability, risk management, and a strong control environment. The position bridges operations and finance, requiring a hands‑on leader who can engage with shop floor activities, support project execution, and ensure alignment across a multi‑site organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure accurate cost and revenue recognition using the Percentage of Completion (PoC) accounting methodology.
  • Supervise full accounting ledgers, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, fixed assets, and general ledger.
  • Oversee site financial and operational performance through daily, weekly, monthly, and annual KPIs and reporting tools.
  • Maintain the accuracy of management control and costing data within the site’s ERP system.
  • Prepare and record all closing entries, including cut‑off adjustments and accruals.
  • Lead and develop the finance team, fostering a proactive environment and identifying high‑potential talent.
  • Drive and monitor internal control improvement plans to mitigate financial and operational risks.
  • Implement and maintain internal controls related to site assets, including physical inventory counts.
  • Track and support site productivity plans across labor, overhead, and materials.
  • Coordinate the financial launch of R&D projects with group R&D centers.
  • Manage the site accounting team and support integration with shared service centers as needed.
  • Prepare and report profitability analyses by product line, customer, and project.
  • Provide cost data and financial support to sales, R&D, and project management teams.
  • Act as the site liaison for tax credits, R&D grants, and government subsidies.
  • Prepare statutory financial statements and monthly reports in compliance with US GAAP.
  • Monitor and communicate changes in local accounting and tax regulations.
  • Compile monthly closing files with full supporting documentation.
  • Manage payroll entries, accruals, and ERP payroll interface.
  • Maintain accurate records of all provisions and employee benefits, including pensions.
  • Reconcile US GAAP and statutory equity.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of income statements and balance sheets in Oracle.
  • Develop and update accounting procedures and process documentation.
  • Coordinate with external and tax auditors, ensuring timely delivery of required documentation.
  • Support preparation and documentation for grants, tax credits, and subsidies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Bachelor of Science degree with a concentration in Accounting or Finance, or a related field of study with applicable experience
  • 7-10 years of experience in a manufacturing plant
  • Strong sense of ownership & accountability – with demonstrated ability to deliver success whilst working with an operational business partner
  • Ability to build relationships while challenging and proactively driving improvements and change
  • Encourages a team spirit of continuous development and learning from mistakes; actively seeks feedback on his / her behavior
  • Promotes respect for different cultures, mentalities, and attitudes and fosters diversity in his / her team
