The Tax Senior Manager, Transfer Pricing is responsible for advising clients of the transfer pricing implications relating to their business objectives, recommending alternate courses of action, and identifying methods of complying with transfer pricing regulations. The role includes marketing, networking and business development within the area of experience and specialization and recognizing potential changes in tax policy and applying new policies to tax compliance.
Job Summary The Tax Senior Manager, Transfer Pricing is responsible for advising clients of the transfer pricing implications relating to their business objectives, recommending alternate courses of action, and identifying methods of complying with transfer pricing regulations. In this role, the Senior Manager will be charged with marketing, networking and business development within their area of experience and specialization and recognizing potential changes in tax policy and applying new policies to tax compliance.
Responsibilities- Research
- Completes financial analysis related to intercompany transactions, including evaluation of industry data and client-provided financial data to document appropriate intercompany pricing policies
- Identifies when research is appropriate and frames issues to be researched
- Tax Compliance
- Determines scope of transfer pricing projects, establishes budgets and timelines, and drafts/presents proposals to prospective clients
- Includes economic analysis in final reports and ensures clients are compliant with transfer pricing requirements
- Assists in selecting appropriate transfer pricing methods under IRS regulations and OECD guidelines
- Ensures tax engagement letters are adopted prior to engagement work
- Reviews facts related to transfer pricing to identify basic, complex and advanced issues
- Manages engagements to meet metrics and completes project planning and scheduling
- Tax Controversy
- Represents clients before tax authorities on contested issues as appropriate, with guidance from senior professionals
- Transfer Pricing Consulting and Documentation Services
- Develops, recommends, and implements transfer pricing methods by transaction type
- Prepares planning and documentation reports; analyzes regulations and client data for issues
- Assesses new regulations and reports findings to senior leadership
- Colleges with internal/external experts as needed and identifies cross-selling opportunities
- Analyzes client situations and provides transfer pricing advice to maximize client benefits
- Tax Provision and FIN 48
- Applies transfer pricing concepts to tax provisions and FIN 48; reviews related tax provisions
- Collaborates with Assurance on tax accrual reviews related to transfer pricing
- Practice, Staff and Business Development
- Identifies opportunities, delivers presentations to pitch service capabilities
- Prepares proposals, statements of work and engagement letters
- Researches transfer pricing topics and contributes to ongoing development of the practice
- Generates internal/external training materials and presents on relevant topics
- Tax Related Software
- Uses tax research databases and tax software; familiarity with statistical packages is preferred
- Other duties as required
- Supervises day-to-day workload of STS Transfer Pricing Managers, Senior Associates and Associates on engagements and reviews work product
- Ensures training on tax software for staff; evaluates performance and supports professional development
- Delivers performance feedback and conducts evaluations; acts as Career Advisor as appropriate
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or other relevant field required
- Advanced degree preferred
- Eight (8) or more years of prior experience required
- Experience working within a transfer pricing practice required
- Experience supervising professionals on a project or engagement basis required
- Experience with tax provisions from a transfer pricing perspective preferred
- Experience applying knowledge of the interplay between transfer pricing and other areas of tax preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
- Experience with tax research databases; knowledge of statistical analysis software preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication, analytical, and research skills
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Ability to lead a team and develop personnel; strong client relationship-building skills
