Overview
This role is available within Huntington Bank Corporate office footprint. The Commercial Loan Closing Specialist supports the Commercial Loan Officers in driving the closing process for commercial loan products, including documentation gathering, due diligence, review, and loan funding. The position acts as a control point ensuring adherence to bank policies and procedures and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, and serves as a liaison with internal and external parties such as operations, risk, compliance, in‑house and outside counsel.
Responsibilities- Directly responsible for the integrity of loan closing, due diligence, documentation, compliance, booking to system of record, and closing files for assigned customers and loans.
- Order and review due diligence such as title commitments, flood determinations, insurance, and other pre‑closing items, coordinating reviews with respective banker, outside counsel, and title company.
- Complete funding, ensure all fees are collected (e.g., appraisal fees, commitment fees, and other closing fees), and prepare forms necessary to book the loan on system of record.
- Clear any outstanding post‑closing items and collateral exceptions; work with Commercial Loan Servicing to resolve errors.
- Manage the closing checklist and closing files according to Business Segment standards.
- Request and review closing documents to ensure the structure and terms of the loan conform to credit approval and bank policies and are appropriately completed prior to closing.
- Develop and maintain relationships with bank attorneys, outside counsel, title companies, and other third parties.
- Act as a control point ensuring adherence to bank policies and procedures and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Keep informed of and communicate with the assigned banking region any risk‑related changes that may impact assigned work functions and processes.
- Follow or establish effective controls and processes to ensure risks are measured, monitored, and controlled and compliance requirements are adhered to on an ongoing basis.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree or five (5) years of Commercial Banking experience.
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in understanding of Commercial Loan Documentation and collateral perfection.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including professional grammar and demeanor.
- Confidence, assertiveness, professionalism, and ability to interact with all levels within the organization in a professional manner.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail, planning, and follow‑up.
- Proficiency with PC and internet applications such as Microsoft Office and SharePoint.
- Ability to work independently on multiple tasks without compromising quality.
- Ability to prioritize high‑volume workflow.
- Acceptance of change and capability to learn new processes.
Office. Certain positions outside the branch network may be eligible for a flexible work arrangement, combining in‑office and work‑from‑home options.
