Role Overview

The Special Assets Portfolio Manager II is a key member of the coverage team, directly accountable for managing a portfolio of more complex, and typically larger stressed banking relationships. Responsibilities include reviewing updated financial statements, proactive monitoring, and interacting with Credit Analysts and SAG Relationship Managers. The role focuses on underwriting and preparing approval memos for renewals, changes in terms, and forbearance agreements.

It also entails monitoring loan payment status, past dues, collateral, maturities, monetary and covenant compliance, and financial statement reporting compliance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Accountable for managing a portfolio of accounts in support of the Special Assets Director, team leader, and/or Workout Officers.
  • Client contact with difficult credit relationships, often in confrontational situations.
  • Prepare approval memos and make recommendations for credit decisions.
  • Provide input on action plans and deal structure in discussions with the deal team.
  • Value collateral and assess collateral position to support loan outstanding decisions.
  • Mentor Credit Analysts and junior portfolio managers.
  • Complete all requirements of loan bookings, including preparation, review, documentation, and forwarding of executed documents to ensure proper booking in the AFS system.
  • Develop a working knowledge of assigned customers and businesses.
  • Monitor progress on drafting Forbearance Agreements and loan documents, including third‑party documents, completion, and review.
  • Ensure proper credit approval is obtained for new and renewal credit requests.
  • Collect and review all required collateral information.
  • Review current account status, including past‑due, matured, and maturing loan relationships.
  • Support Workout Officers in continuous monitoring of customer performance, industry trends, statement, covenant, insurance tracking, and dual risk rating updates.
  • Assist in completing ALSR forms within deadlines for ALSR and portfolio review meetings.
  • Assist in due diligence and review of commercial loan documentation for exceptions and deficiencies, and engage the Real Estate Review Group when appropriate.
  • Attend client, ALSR, portfolio review, and other meetings as needed.
  • Complete non‑accrual and charge‑off memos as required.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum six years of credit analysis and/or loan review experience in the banking industry or related field.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Professional presence and effective communication with clients, consultants, bank group members, and internal partners.
  • Expertise in financial and risk analysis and effective problem solving.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel; familiarity with the bank’s internal applications is a plus.
Working Conditions

Normal office environment with minimal exposure to dust, noise, and temperature variations. Extended screen time; minimal travel required.

Compensation and Benefits

Special Assets Portfolio Manager II Total Base Pay Range: $82,100.00 – $ USD Annual.
