Overview
This position provides personal financial services at assigned military installations. The counselor delivers a full breadth of personal financial counseling to military service members and their families, including one‑on‑one counseling, briefings, presentations, and referral resources.
Responsibilities- Conduct one‑on‑one financial counseling sessions and consultations with commanders or other staff.
- Develop, publicize, and lead Personal Financial Management classes and workshops covering topics across the military lifecycle, such as deployment, return, and career events.
- Respond to requests for age‑appropriate classes or seminars.
- Utilize virtual counseling and electronic communications (web‑based, secure chat, video teleconference) as authorized.
- Manage duty‑to‑warn situations in accordance with DoD protocol.
- Communicate with leadership and participate in regular supervision, sharing trends and issues.
- Attend in‑services, trainings, and quality improvement committees as assigned.
- Perform additional duties as needed to support the program within scope and program needs.
- Bachelor’s degree required; an associate degree plus 4 years of experience or a high school diploma plus 6 years of experience may be considered.
- Minimum 3+ years of financial counseling experience.
- U.S. citizenship, fluent in English; bilingual in English and Spanish if required.
- Ability to obtain a favorably adjudicated Tier2 investigation.
- Successful completion of the Congressionally Mandated Disclosures for Organizational Conflicts of Interest (OCI) process.
- Certification:
Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC), Certified Financial Planner (CFP), or Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC).
Salary range: $58,440 – $93,500 annually, depending on location and experience. The position may qualify for short‑term incentives and includes a comprehensive benefits package covering health, life, voluntary and other benefits.
