Job Summary

Under general supervision and according to established procedures, assist nursing and technical staff in screening and preparing patients for exams and perform a variety of moderately to highly complex patient registration duties for the designated Radiology department or ambulatory imaging center.

As Assigned
  • Register and schedule patients for exams, obtain insurance, medical, and demographic data; perform and coordinate patient registration activities including pre‑registration, insurance verification, benefit level verification with third‑party payors, appointment confirmation, and verification of all demographic and referring physician information.
  • Assist in PACS/RIS and patient information management coordination to ensure completeness, accuracy, and integrity, and resolve daily operational issues including matching and retrieval of images and reports.
  • Interact with technologists and radiology nursing staff to ensure completion of appropriate paperwork, assist with entry of diagnosis coding and other billing information for diagnostic procedures to ensure billing accuracy.
  • Interact with customers and stakeholders to provide and distribute appropriate exam results in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Maintain patient charts and films as appropriate and assist with data collection activities required by administration and other outside agencies.
Responsibilities Include
  • Assist in preparing patients for diagnostic X‐ray exams by positioning, lifting, and moving the patient, marking X‐ray cassettes or plates with patient demographics, monitoring the patient when needed, entering patient demographic information into the RIS, and tracking patient information.
  • Answer phones, schedule patients as needed, process and track film jackets and distribute films, perform inventory management and maintenance, perform patient prep and monitoring with non‑radiographic equipment (IV pumps, special beds, suction, pulse oximeters, etc.).
  • Prepare diagnostic contrast media for procedures, start IVs, and perform venipuncture.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent; on‑job training or related experience required. Some college preferred.
  • Graduation from a practical nursing school, certified nurse assistant program, medical assistant program, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Six to twelve months of related computer/information management experience required.
  • Knowledge of universal precautions.
  • BCLS certification highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology highly desirable.
