Catholic Charities of Southeast Michigan is dedicated to providing compassionate and professional services to individuals and families in need. Serving over 20,000 people annually across six counties, we offer a range of programs including adoption services, behavioral health therapy, and outreach initiatives for diverse communities.

Summary

The Peer Support Coach will be part of a team that provides supportive services to previously homeless individuals and/or families at The Residences of St. Matthew. This position will collaborate with residents to provide individualized and flexible support to help them acclimate to their new community, assist with access to resources, and provide supports that will promote stability and growth.

Responsibilities

  • Assist residents with accessing and navigating community resources
  • Provide mentorship and serve as a role model by sharing personal knowledge and experience with residents
  • Assist with goal setting and symptom management
  • Assist residents with the development of life skills and activities of daily living
  • Initiate and facilitate peer-led groups and events for residents
  • Enhance team decision making by attending staff and property management meetings to advocate for resident’s voice
  • Assists with the coordination and transportation of residents to outside service providers
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • High school diploma or equivalent GED
  • Minimum of 3 years consecutive recovery time from date of hire
  • Personal lived experience of homelessness
  • Ability to apply Housing-First, trauma-informed, and person-centered principles in work with residents
  • Ability to practice professional boundaries and refrain from dual relationships with residents
  • Ability to maintain appropriate emotional regulation and engage in healthy self-care strategies
  • Knowledge of mental health and recovery services
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Ability to demonstrate computer skills;
    Microsoft Office, HMIS
  • Preferred candidate will have a valid driver’s license

Position Classification, Type & Expected Hours of Work:
This is a part time, non-exempt position. Days and hours of work are flexible within hours of Monday through Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
