The Deputy Outpatient Pharmacy Supervisor is responsible for the daily professional and administrative operations of the outpatient pharmacy technicians and controlled substance vaults throughout the John

D. Dingell VA Medical Center. The employee will also lead process improvement initiatives and monitor quality metrics related to inpatient and outpatient-controlled substance operations. The employee works independently under the Associate Chief of Pharmacy Operations and in collaboration with the Outpatient and Inpatient Pharmacy Supervisors and keeps them apprised of trends/problems regarding controlled substance medication use processes. Work must be coordinated on day and evening shifts, 7 days a week, with constant rotation of professional and technical staff.

The range of positions supervised are pharmacy technicians and pharmacy interns. The employee participates in all Pharmacy Service activities including clinically oriented programs and quality assurance activities and coordinates all functions and activities within these sections to ensure they coincide with other sections and the overall goals and mission of Pharmacy Service.

Pharmacy Supervisor:
Responsible for the professional and administrative management of an assigned area in pharmacy service, to include budgetary execution. Such individuals have responsibilities for supervising multiple pharmacists and technicians. Manages people, maintains effective interdepartmental relations, and cooperates with other services to accomplish the medical facility's mission and goals. Develops performance standards, assures that the program area is compliant with all regulatory and accrediting body requirements, designs and implements orientation and training programs for staff, and develops and maintains systems to monitor the performance of staff activities.

Develops policies and procedures relative to their assigned area.

7:30a- 4:00p or 8:00a- 4:30p. Schedule subject to change based on the needs of the Facility.
