Field Service Technical Support

Job Description

We are seeking a Field Engineer to support the client customer data centers by resolving hardware and infrastructure issues. This role requires hands‑on experience with enterprise‑level systems and a strong understanding of data center operations.

Detroit, MI

Hourly rate plus $0.72 per mile reimbursement.

• Candidate must have own reliable transportation, insurance, and a valid driver’s license.
• Must be willing to travel from customer to customer as needed; mileage and toll reimbursement per federal rates.
• Must be able to work overtime and weekends with advanced notice.

• Resolve hardware and software infrastructure issues (servers, network, security, etc.) using systems analysis techniques.
• Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve issues within IT infrastructure including HPE Enterprise systems, servers, storage, and networking.
• Apply knowledge of data‑center IT operations and software tools to perform day‑to‑day functions and troubleshooting.
• Perform high‑volume, low‑impact tasks efficiently and competently.
• Provide installation and break/fix support, including component replacement, hardware troubleshooting, and operating system installation.
• Operate data‑center support tasks with minimal guidance.
• Demonstrate hands‑on practical knowledge of systems and policies.
• Manage operations tasks, resolve escalations, and clear blocking issues to enable continued delivery of data‑center support activities.

• Basic understanding of storage theory, server layout, and network concepts.
• Mechanical aptitude and ability to follow procedures to make component‑level repairs using ESD best practices.
• Good understanding of general and technical aspects of the job.
• Familiarity with different computer applications and ability to navigate required software tools.
• Professional written and verbal communication skills.
• Organizational skills and ability to document daily activities.
• Ability to maintain successful communication and working relationships with management and peers at all levels.
• Teamwork and interpersonal skills.
• Willingness to work outside of standard business hours and weekends.
• Willingness to travel for out‑of‑state projects.

• 1–3 years of technical experience and an associate’s degree or equivalent in computer science or related field; or, without a degree, two additional years of relevant professional experience.
• Experience with pallet jack and data‑center server lifting tools is a plus.
• Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
• Ability to operate manual and power hand tools.
