Research Assistant, Data Management Analytics, Division of Research & Innovation

Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Research Assistant, Data Management Analytics, Division of Research & Innovation at its Detroit campus location.

Position

Purpose:

The Research Assistant position provides technical and analytic support for biomedical and population health research initiatives involving Google Cloud Platform–based research data workflows, Big Query SQL (Structured Query Language) analytics, structured research databases, interactive dashboards, and AI-integrated research approaches.

Essential Functions
:

  • Assist with development and maintenance of cloud-based research data workflows and structured analytics environments using Google Cloud Platform technologies, including Big Query and Cloud Storage.
  • Assist in preparing, transforming, and organizing large structured and unstructured research datasets for downstream analytics, reporting, and AI-enabled approaches.
  • Support implementation of SQL-based (structured query language) research data pipelines and analytic workflows used in biomedical, clinical, and population health research projects.
  • Assist in the development of interactive research dashboards and visualization tools for research and healthcare data using cloud-based analytic platforms.
  • Support research teams in transitioning analytic and data processing workflows toward reproducible cloud-based environments and internally managed research tools.
  • Assist with development and testing of AI-enabled (Artificial Intelligence) workflows, including computer vision, natural language processing, semantic search, and metadata extraction systems for research approaches.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Education: Master’s degree
  • Discipline: Computer Science/ Data Science/ Biomedical Informatics/ Bioinformatics/ Statistics/ Computational Science/ Related computational discipline.
  • Experience: Experienced (minimum 2 years of job-related experience).
  • Plus, two or more of the following is preferred:
    • Google Cloud Platform
    • SQL (Structured Query Language) and relational databases
    • Python programming
    • Cloud-based analytics workflows
    • Dashboard development
    • AI/ML (Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning) or data science workflows
    • Biomedical or healthcare research data environments
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Working knowledge of SQL (Structured Query Language) and structured database concepts.
    • Experience using Python for analytics, scripting, or data processing workflows.
    • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms, particularly Google Cloud Platform technologies such as Big Query and Cloud Storage.
    • Familiarity with AI/ML (Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning), natural language processing, or computer vision workflows preferred.
    • Ability to assist with development of dashboards and interactive analytic tools.
    • Ability to work independently while contributing within collaborative research teams.
    • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
    • Knowledge of research integrity and reproducible research principles.
    • Experience with Git-based workflows or collaborative software development environments preferred.
