Mainframe DB2 System Admin

Location

Midland, MI 48640 (Remote)

Duration

12 Months (Contract-to-Hire)

Responsibilities
  • Administer, maintain, and support DB2 databases running on z/OS environments.
  • Perform DB2 installations, upgrades, maintenance, and patch implementations.
  • Manage DB2 Data Sharing environments within Parallel Sysplex architectures.
  • Monitor database health and proactively resolve performance issues.
  • Conduct DB2 systems performance tuning and capacity planning activities.
  • Perform SQL performance analysis and access path optimization.
  • Support application performance tuning and database optimization initiatives.
  • Analyze and improve database access paths for critical business applications.
  • Manage logical and physical database design activities.
  • Utilize DB2 monitoring tools to identify bottlenecks and recommend improvements.
  • Support database security implementation and administration.
  • Work with SMP/E installations, maintenance procedures, and User Mods.
  • Install, configure, and support DB2 tools and third-party ISV products.
  • Interface with OEM vendor tools and provide implementation support.
  • Support CICS/DB2 and MQ/DB2 integration environments.
  • Participate in disaster recovery planning, testing, and execution activities.
  • Develop and maintain database administration documentation and operational procedures.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure database reliability and availability.
  • Troubleshoot complex DB2 system and application-related issues.
  • Support database consolidation and optimization initiatives.
Required Skills & Experience
  • 8+ years of experience as a DB2 Database Administrator supporting DB2 on z/OS environments.
  • 5+ years of experience with DB2 internals, architecture, installation, and operational support.
  • 5+ years of experience working with DB2 Data Sharing in Parallel Sysplex environments.
  • 5+ years of experience in DB2 performance tuning and capacity planning.
  • 5+ years of experience with database monitoring, performance diagnostics, and optimization.
  • 4+ years of experience with application performance tuning and SQL optimization.
  • 4+ years of experience performing access path analysis and SQL coding optimization.
  • 3+ years of experience with database security administration and DB2 security integration.
  • 3+ years of experience using SMP/E, maintenance processes, and User Mods.
  • 3+ years of experience supporting disaster recovery planning and execution.
  • Experience installing and supporting DB2 tools and third-party ISV products.
  • Experience with OEM vendor tool integration and support.
  • Experience supporting CICS/DB2 and MQ/DB2 environments.
  • Understanding of REXX scripting.
  • Working knowledge of HTML and Java code.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting large-scale enterprise mainframe environments.
  • Experience with database consolidation projects.
  • Advanced understanding of logical and physical database design principles.
  • Knowledge of high-availability and disaster recovery architectures.
  • Experience supporting mission-critical applications in regulated environments.
