Detroit Community Schools is hiring a full time District Technology Director.

The District Technology Director provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for all district technology services. The position develops and implements a district wide technology vision that supports teaching, learning, administration, communication, and efficient district operations. The Director oversees technology infrastructure, systems, cybersecurity, data, instructional technology, technical support, procurement, and technology-related policies. The position collaborates with district leaders, staff, students, families, and vendors to ensure technology is secure, reliable, accessible, and aligned with district goals.

Responsibilities:

Essential Duties:

  • Develop and implement a district technology plan aligned with strategic priorities.

  • Lead district wide technology initiatives, projects, and services.

  • The ability to maintain and update the district website.

  • The ability to post and support social media communications.

  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend solutions that support educational and operational goals.

  • Oversee network, wireless, servers, cloud services, telecommunications, internet connectivity, and related infrastructure.

  • Ensure reliable, secure, and sustainable technology services across the district.

  • Develop technology lifecycle, replacement, maintenance, and disaster recovery plans.

  • Lead cybersecurity, data protection, privacy, access management, and incident response efforts.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable technology, accessibility, cybersecurity, and student privacy requirements.

  • Collaborate with instructional leaders to effectively integrate technology into teaching and learning.

  • Oversee learning management systems, educational applications, digital resources, classroom technology, and responsible use of AI tools.

  • Supervise, evaluate, and develop technology department staff while maintaining strong customer service and support standards.

  • Develop and manage the district technology budget, including equipment, licensing, subscriptions, and infrastructure investments.

  • Manage technology vendors, contracts, purchasing, and service agreements.

  • Oversee district wide technology systems, applications, data integration, reporting, and data governance.

  • Develop and maintain technology policies, procedures, documentation, inventories, and standards.

  • Communicate technology initiatives and challenges effectively to district stakeholders.

  • Promote innovation, collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, educational technology, computer science, business administration, or a related field.

  • Significant technology leadership experience, preferably in a K–12 environment.

  • Experience managing technology infrastructure, cybersecurity, systems, and technical support.

  • Experience supervising staff and managing budgets, vendors, contracts, and technology projects.

  • Strong knowledge of cybersecurity, data privacy, network infrastructure, cloud technologies, and educational technology.

  • Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.

  • K–12 public school district technology leadership experience.

  • Knowledge of student information systems, learning management systems, instructional technology, and classroom technology.

  • Relevant technology or cybersecurity certifications.

  • Experience with strategic technology planning, district wide implementations, and change management.
