Prominent Medical Malpractice and Personal Injury law firm has an immediate opening for a Legal Assistant Paralegal with 3+ years of experience to join their team. This is an in-office position based in Southfield, Michigan.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support attorneys through all phases of litigation, including trials and appeals.
  • Conduct legal research using Westlaw.
  • Draft pleadings, motions and appellate documents and file them with the court.
  • Manage attorneys' calendars and dockets to ensure deadlines are met.
  • E-file pleadings in state and federal courts.
  • Effectuate service of process in accordance with relevant Court Rules.
  • Manage legal documentation and correspondence in strict confidence.
  • Assist attorneys with interrogatories, discovery requests, and trial materials.
  • Summarize documents and records.
  • Perform administrative duties (calendar hearings and deadlines, organize case files, manage logistics, etc.).
  • Maintain pleadings and discovery indexes and databases.
  • Review, edit and proofread documents.
  • Organize exhibits, documents, evidence, briefs and appendices.
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of prior experience as a Paralegal. Prior experience with plaintiff-side litigation involving personal injury and/or medical malpractice is a plus!
  • Paralegal certification from an accredited institution is preferred but not required.
  • Must have prior experience e-filing pleadings in state and federal courts.
  • Applicable knowledge of relevant Michigan Court Rules, motions, discovery, evidence, litigation documentation, court rules and procedures, practices, etc.
  • Strong proficiency with MS Office and PowerPoint.
  • Working knowledge of Westlaw and case management software.
  • Highly organized with the ability to juggle multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong writing and communication skills along with attention to detail.
  • Works well independently and on a team.
