Job Description
The Inventory Controller serves as the site-level inventory planning and material coordination lead for the Detroit Refinery. This role is responsible for managing maintenance, turnaround, project, and operational demand into inventory and supply actions that support safe, reliable, and competitive refinery operations. The Inventory Controller acts as the primary interface between Maintenance, Operations, and Supply Chain teams to ensure material availability, inventory, and replenishment decisions are aligned with equipment criticality, lead time risk, supplier capability, and site execution priorities.
The successful individual will be located in Detroit, Michigan and report to the Supply Chain Director.
- Serve as the site’s primary coordination point for inventory planning decisions, balancing material availability, lead times, and operational reliability risk.
- Partner with Maintenance, Operations, and Supply Chain teams to validate material requirements, prioritize demand, and ensure inventory planning supports refining operations. Apply Sales & Operations Execution (SO&E) methodology through maintenance planning, scheduling, and operations meetings to align short‑term supply chain priorities with tactical execution strategies.
- Convert planned orders to purchase requisitions for sourcing and procurement. Schedule transfers from same plant to fulfill requirements. Schedule transfers from other plants to fulfill requirements. Convert repairable items for in‑house repair or third‑party repair.
- Perform robust and hands‑on inventory reviews to include stockouts and items at risk of stockouts, inventory optimization, ABC classifications, forecasting demand based on planned activities or seasonality, supplier stocking programs such as VMI and Consignment opportunities, unfulfilled or canceled work order reservations and affected inventories, surplus stock, and obsolete stock.
- Support material master data quality by identifying required updates to lead times, units of measure, stocking indicators, criticality, sourcing data, descriptions, and planning parameters.
- Participate, identify, and lead inventory management continuous improvement projects aimed at optimizing inventory.
- Provide support for Company audits and Supply Chain compliance control reviews as needed.
- Use knowledge of stakeholder needs and CSA capabilities to manage and prioritize exception handling tasks for the Supply Chain team.
- Coordinate with Warehouse Manager to ensure cycle count results, inventory discrepancies, storage constraints, and physical material availability are incorporated into inventory planning decisions.
- Provide inventory planning, usage history, demand forecasting, and material availability inputs to support CSA sourcing strategies, supplier stocking programs, RFP/RFQ development, supplier relationship management, and PO execution as needed.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Zero (0) - two (2) or more years of Supply Chain or business relevant experience required.
