This position is responsible for developing relationships with cross functional teams in order to understand technology developments, design changes and future business decisions within the global supply chain, including regular collaboration with German-based headquarters (DTAG) and Mexico-based powertrain suppliers requiring communication in German and Spanish.

Detroit Diesel Corporation seeks a Senior Buyer Powertrain Components based out of our office at 13400 Outer Drive West, Detroit, MI 48239. Note, this is a hybrid position whereby the employee will work both from home and from the aforementioned office address. Hence, the employee must live within a reasonable commuting distance of the aforementioned office address. Note, this position requires domestic and international travel, as needed, up to 5% per year.
Job duties:
Develop relationships with cross functional teams in order to understand technology developments, design changes and future business decisions within the global supply chain, including regular collaboration with German-based headquarters (DTAG) and Mexico-based powertrain suppliers requiring communication in German and Spanish. Negotiate or renew supplier agreements to purchase critical materials, parts components, or services, including conducting negotiations in Spanish with Mexican suppliers and in German with DTAG headquarters and German-based partners.
Negotiate the most effective long term program for Daimler Truck - including supplier commitments for pricing, warranty, engineering, manufacturing and aftermarket support. Manage cross-functional product teams to develop and evaluate long term proposals. Interface with suppliers and Daimler Truck Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering to insure the timely and accurate communication of specifications. Enlist supplier participation in design change considerations. Develop long term strategies for the purchase of aftermarket commodities and systems.
Interface with international suppliers and business partners to resolve supplier quality problems. Provide support to all Parts Distribution Centers regarding supplier related Purchasing issues. Negotiate supplier warranty coverage to minimize Detroit Diesel exposure. Negotiate appropriate Aftermarket Requirements for Detroit Diesel products. Evaluate alternative materials, methods, and technologies as necessary. Evaluate alternate suppliers as necessary. Maintain and keep current supplier pricing files, blanket purchase orders, and cost saving reporting tools.
Achieve the best total supplier driven costs within the product lifecycle.
Knowledge You Should Bring
Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, Materials Science, Logistics, or a related technical field.
10 years (120 Months) of experience in Procurement
Must have 10 years of experience working for a global company with demonstrated ability to connect and work across cultures and regions.
Must have 10 years of negotiation experience with global supply base.
Must have 10 years of experience in purchasing processes, documentation, compliance and tracking.
Must have 3 years of purchasing experience within the Mexico powertrain supply base.
Must have 3 years of purchasing experience in casting or forging commodities within the commercial vehicle industry.
Must have 3 years of experience in purchasing program management.
Must have experience with RFQ Process (Request for Quotation) to nominate powertrain parts.
Must have full professional proficiency in German and Spanish (spoken and written) to perform supplier negotiations and coordinate technical and commercial matters with Mexico-based suppliers and DTAG headquarters.
Requires domestic and international travel, as needed, up to 5% per year.
