RoleThe Assembler performs the tasks associated with both mechanical and electrical assemblies and sub-assemblies in the final assembly of equipment for Conair brand products. This role maintains, tests, and repairs assemblies following completion of assembled units. This role requires machinery trade knowledge for the production of precision parts and assemblies. This position reports to the Production Manager and is located in Pinconning, Michigan.
Dutiesand Responsibilities
- Assemble equipment to engineering drawings, schematics, and IPEG standards, based on work orders or production schedules, according to specifications;
- Responsible for construction, modification, and implementation of custom machinery and machine systems;
- Support project design, quoting, implementation, and validation of equipment for new programs;
- Perform quality checks on products and parts;
- Package finished products and prepare them for shipment;
- Rotate through all the tasks required in a particular production process;
- Review work orders and blueprints to ensure work is performed according to specifications;
- Complete production reports to communicate team production level to management;
- Maintain production equipment and machinery;
- Inspect, operate, and test completed products to verify functioning, machine capabilities, or conformance to customer specifications;
- Position or align components for assembly;
- Rework, repair, or replace damaged parts or assemblies;
- Fasten or install piping, fixtures, or wiring and electrical components to form assemblies or subassemblies, using hand tools, rivet guns, or welding equipment;
- Remove rough spots and smooth surfaces to fit, trim, or clean parts, using hand tools or power tools;
- Interface with engineering to update drawings and parts lists to match equipment variances;
- Layout and sometimes manufacture precision parts involved with assemblies and sub-assemblies;
- Communicate with return goods to evaluate, repair, and upgrade customer return equipment to customer requests;
- Maintain records of assembly process, progress, and problems;
- Interface with shipping, return goods, service, sales and production scheduling to meet set production goals and changes;
- Follow dispatch list and work hand-in-hand with purchasing and master scheduling to assure on hand inventory of parts and purchased components;
- Use equipment bill of material and Baan computer system to collect parts to confirm quantities for completion of assemblies and sub-assemblies for customer equipment orders;
- Daily review of on hand balances and inventory of manufactured and purchased parts in assigned work area;
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment through a continued program of daily shoveling, sweeping, and general cleaning;
- Other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED and/or ten (10)+ years of direct work experience without formal education;
- Position typically expects three (3)+ years in assembling and/or repairing machinery;
- Strong mechanical background;
- Experience in blueprint reading and interpretation;
- Basic math skills;
- Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job;
- Works under moderate supervision;
