Job Description
- This role focuses on maintaining and repairing injection molds used to produce interior components for the automotive industry
- The tooling technician performs preventative maintenance and production tool repair on molds across a wide range of tonnages, ensuring reliable, safe, and efficient operation of the injection molding equipment within a high-volume manufacturing environment
Job Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance on injection molds used in automotive interior component production to ensure consistent performance and minimize downtime
- Conduct production tool repairs on injection molds with tonnages ranging from approximately 900 pounds to 2,500 tons across a fleet of 34 machines
- Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems related to injection molds, including hydraulic ejection systems, hydraulic lines, and core signals in hydraulic cylinders.
- Troubleshoot and repair issues on injection molding machinery, including equipment from brands such as the person, KM, and Toshiba, ensuring molds run efficiently and safely
- Carry out hydraulic maintenance, including inspection, testing, and replacement of components to maintain optimal system performance
- Troubleshoot and repair hot runner systems, including valve gates within molds, to ensure proper flow and temperature control
- Perform standard electrical troubleshooting and repair up to 120V and 240V on mold-related systems and components
- Use electrical testing tools, including voltmeters and ohm meters, to verify connections, diagnose faults, and confirm proper operation of mold circuits
- Conduct diagnostic testing on molds and related systems to identify mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical issues
- Carry out mold repair activities such as grinding, fitting, and adjustments to restore tooling to proper specifications
- Support tool and die and die maintenance activities as needed to keep molds in production-ready condition
Essential Skills
- At least 3 years of experience in production tool repair within an injection molding environment
- Hands-on experience with injection mold tooling repair and preventative maintenance
- Hydraulic maintenance and repair experience, specifically with hydraulic ejection systems, hydraulic lines, and core signals in hydraulic cylinders
- Experience working with injection molding machinery, including equipment from manufacturers such as the person, KM, and Toshiba (experience with all three is not required)
- A minimum of 2 years of experience working with hot runner systems
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair valve gates within molds
- At least 1 year of experience with standard electrical troubleshooting and repair up to 120V and 240V
- Ability to test resistance (ohms) and operate voltmeters to test electrical connections to molds
- Proficiency in diagnosing mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical issues on injection molds
- Experience in mold repair, including grinding and other tooling operations
- Background in tool and die work, die maintenance, or mold maintenance
Job Type & Location
This is a Permanent position based out of Detroit, MI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
