Mechanical Engineer III
We are seeking a hands-on Mechanical Engineer III to provide direct maintenance and line engineering support for engine assembly operations and axle assembly processes. This role is heavily focused on live production support within a manufacturing environment and requires strong troubleshooting, equipment maintenance, and shop-floor experience. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience supporting production equipment, resolving machine downtime, and collaborating with maintenance technicians and skilled trades personnel in an automotive or heavy industrial manufacturing environment.
Provide maintenance engineering support for engine assembly and axle assembly operations.
Support production lines through troubleshooting and rapid issue resolution.
Review station-level drawings and bills of materials (BOMs) and develop spare-parts recommendations.
Develop and implement preventive maintenance procedures for existing and new equipment.
Troubleshoot tooling and equipment breakdowns on a daily basis.
Design and implement tooling changes for new products.
Develop and improve assembly processes and methods.
Coordinate equipment procurement activities with vendors and purchasing teams.
Support equipment certification activities, including gauges, torque guns, and leak testers.
Provide technical guidance and coaching to assemblers and supervisors.
Occasionally supervise skilled trades personnel.
Participate in weekend production support rotation.
Stay current with new manufacturing technologies and best practices.
Daily Production Line Support: 70%
Project-Based Engineering Work: 30%
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology. Candidates with eight or more years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Minimum three years of manufacturing experience in an assembly environment.
Strong mechanical troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills.
Experience supporting live production environments and responding to equipment failures.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, and assembly methods.
Proficiency with standard PC software and Windows applications.
Experience in automotive or heavy industrial manufacturing environments.
Experience working in union manufacturing facilities.
Experience supporting automated assembly and manufacturing equipment.
Knowledge of Siemens systems and products.
Experience with Fanuc and Kuka robots.
Experience troubleshooting and programming torque tooling.
Familiarity with Kistler and Promess systems.
Proficiency with AutoCAD LT.
Experience with virtual machines.
Project management or supervisory experience.
