Fabricator, Manufacturing ​/ Production

Overview

AJM Packaging Corporation, Detroit, MI, is seeking a skilled Fabricator to add to our growing team. The Fabricator is responsible for cutting, shaping, assembling, and welding metal and other materials to create parts and products according to specifications.

• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications to understand project requirements.
• Measure and cut raw materials such as steel, aluminum, and other metals using tools like saws, shears, and plasma cutters.
• Shape materials using equipment such as brakes, rolls, presses, manual Bridgeport, lathe, drill press, cut off saw and grinders.
• Assemble components by welding, bolting, or riveting, ensuring accurate alignment and fit.
• Operate welding machines, including MIG, TIG, and stick welders to join metal parts.
• Inspect completed assemblies to ensure they meet quality standards and specifications.
• Perform routine maintenance on fabrication tools and equipment.
• Collaborate with engineers and other team members to resolve fabrication issues and improve processes.
• Prepare and finish metal surfaces to ensure they are ready for painting.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area, following all safety protocols and regulations.
• Keep accurate records of materials used, time spent, and tasks completed.
• All other tasks assigned.

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
• Technical training in fabrication, welding, or a related field is preferred.
• 2+ years of experience in metal fabrication or a similar role.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and blueprints.
• Skilled in the use and setup of fabrication tools such as saws, shears, presses, welders, drill presses, sanders, grinders, manual Bridge ports, and manual lathes.
