Role Description The Cost Estimator specializing in Custom Furniture is a full-time, on-site role based in Grand Rapids, MI. This role is responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates for custom furniture projects, including materials, labor, and production time. Day-to-day activities include reviewing design specifications and drawings, collaborating with engineering, manufacturing, and sales teams, and analyzing supplier quotes to ensure accurate pricing.

The Cost Estimator will develop project budgets, monitor cost variances, and recommend cost-effective alternatives while maintaining quality standards. The role also involves updating cost databases, supporting proposal development, and contributing to continuous improvement of costing processes.
Qualifications

  • Strong project estimation skills, including experience with Project Estimation and Cost Management for custom or engineered-to-order products.
  • Proficiency in Budgeting and Cost Control, with the ability to track costs, forecast expenses, and support margin targets.
  • Demonstrated Analytical Skills, including the ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and production data.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes, materials, and methods in furniture or related industries.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams (design, engineering, production, and sales).
  • Solid proficiency in spreadsheets and ERP or estimating software tools.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in engineering, manufacturing, business, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Experience in custom manufacturing or furniture production is preferred.
