CNC Mill Machinist

This role requires a highly skilled CNC mill machinist who can independently take a part from engineering print to finished product. You will interpret detailed drawings, select appropriate tooling and materials, perform complete machine setups, and run production on a variety of stainless steel and steel components ranging from approximately 2 inches to 24 inches in size. You will work closely with engineering to improve machining processes, ensure tight tolerances, and maintain high-quality standards in a modern, well-equipped manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities
  • Take parts from engineering print to finished product independently, including planning the machining process and executing all steps required.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and drawings from engineering to determine dimensions, tolerances, and machining sequences.
  • Work directly with engineering to improve machining processes, enhance efficiency, and resolve manufacturability issues.
  • Perform full setups on CNC milling machines, including changing jaws, touching off tools, building tools, setting vices, and establishing work offsets.
  • Select appropriate tooling and materials based on part requirements and machine capabilities.
  • Download and run the correct CNC programs as needed to produce parts to specification.
  • Troubleshoot machining issues by identifying root causes when parts do not meet specifications and making necessary adjustments and offsets.
  • Work with vertical CNC milling machines, including CMX 1100s and other 3–5 axis machine centers, primarily machining stainless steel, mild steel, and carbon steel.
  • Maintain and hold tight tolerances, including working with tolerances of ±0.0005 inch.
  • Perform first piece inspections using CMM equipment and precision gauging tools such as air gauges, height gauges, calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring instruments.
  • Set up fixtures, lock out vices, and perform changeovers efficiently to minimize downtime and support production schedules.
  • Swap out and adjust tooling as needed to maintain part quality and machine performance.
  • Use CNC controls (Fanuc and Mitsubishi) to operate machines and make minor program edits as required.
  • Collaborate with team members on the shop floor to maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts by suggesting process enhancements and participating in problem-solving activities related to machining and production.
Essential Skills
  • At least 2 years of CNC milling experience, with hands-on operation of CNC mills.
  • Experience setting up CNC machines, including fixtures, vices, tooling, and work offsets.
  • Experience working on vertical CNC mills.
  • Ability to perform full machine changeovers, including adjustments, fixture setups, and vice lockouts.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Ability to select and swap out tooling independently to meet part and material requirements.
  • Experience working with CNC controls, specifically Fanuc or Mitsubishi controls.
  • Demonstrated ability to hold tight tolerances, including working with tolerances of ±0.0005 inch.
  • Hands-on experience with precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and other precision inspection tools.
  • Experience performing first piece inspection and verifying parts against specifications.
  • Solid understanding of CNC milling processes, including setup, operation, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Ability to work with stainless steel, mild steel, and carbon steel materials in a production environment.
Additional

Skills & Qualifications
  • 5+ years of CNC vertical milling experience performing full setups on CMX 1100s within an aerospace environment using Fanuc or Mitsubishi controls is highly preferred.
  • 3+ years of CNC milling experience with minor setup responsibilities is considered a strong background.
  • Experience working with HAAS, CMX, Mazak, or similar CNC milling and turning machines.
  • Familiarity with 3–5 axis machining centers and multi-axis machining concepts.
  • Experience with CNC lathes and turning centers, especially those with live tooling, is a plus.
  • Experience using Mastercam…
