To grow our team in Detroit, we are seeking an experienced Shipping & Receiving Clerk with strong organizational skills, process orientation, and ability to be licensed to operate a fork truck.
Key Responsibilities:- Receive and inspect incoming goods for accuracy and quality, comparing bill of material, invoice, order reports and other related shipping documents to actual received goods.
- Prepare items for shipping, including boxing items, creating shipping labels, and maintaining records of outgoing shipments.
- Manage inventory by organizing stock in the material storage areas and maintaining accurate records.
- Load and unload delivery trucks, either by hand or by using equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, etc.
- Process returned goods, documenting damages and discrepancies, and returning merchandise to stock or containment areas.
- Coordinate with carriers for pickups and deliveries, ensuring timely and efficient transport of goods.
- Communicate with customers, suppliers, receivers, drivers and staff for smooth shipment processes.
- Resolve shipping issues and customer concerns which may arise, escalating complex issues to management as needed.
- Maintain material-handling equipment by completing pre-use inspections and perform operator related maintenance activities.
- Keep inventory, loading areas, and machinery clean.
- Adhere to workplace safety regulations.
- Other duties and tasks as assigned.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED);
- Minimum of two (2) years of material handling experience;
- Valid drivers license and safe driving record;
- Ability to be certified to operate powered industrial vehicles;
- Previous experience operating a forklift and other material handling equipment (i.e. pallet jack, hand truck, etc.);
- Previous shipping, receiving, and inventory management experience.
- Strong interpersonal skills, representing the company to vendors, suppliers and customers
- Ability to read and analyze information
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail;
- Adept at handling multiple complex tasks simultaneously;
- Proficiency with prioritizing and meeting multiple deadlines;
- Excellent time management skills
- Process improvement mindset;
- Knowledge of inventory control;
- Ability to lift materials (50 pounds);
- Strong computer and data entry skills;
- Desire to work in a team-based, lean manufacturing environment;
- Willingness to travel for training, and as other business needs may dictate;
- Ability and willingness to work any shift, as well as overtime, as required to meet business requirements.
