McLaren operates Michigan’s largest network of cancer centers and providers, anchored by the Karmanos Cancer Institute, one of only 53 National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer centers in the U.S.

Under indirect supervision, provides professional nursing care and coordinates the delivery of oncology treatments to assigned patients in the Karmanos Cancer Instutue at McLaren Flint’s Surgical Oncology Department. Ensures adherence to hospital and departmental policies, nursing procedures, standards and practices. Communicates with the surgical oncologists on a regular basis to ensure that proper, high quality patient care is maintained.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Serves as the primary care nurse for patients seen in the clinic. As primary care nurse is responsible for the overall clinical care, coordination, chart maintenance and patient follow-up care.
  • Rooms patients in the clinical exam rooms. Takes histories and assesses oncology patient needs and provides appropriate care.
  • Communication:
    Communicates with physicians regarding all pertinent patient care matters. This includes missed treatments, appointments and clinical concerns. Communicates with patients and families as evidenced by the patient’s understanding of the plan of care.
Required Qualifications
  • Licensed Registered Nurse in State of Michigan
  • Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) or certified within 24 months of hire or transfer
Preferred Qualifications
  • 6 months to 1 year of job-related experience.
