Unit specializes in:
Amputee/Vascular/Cardiology/Stroke. Specialized Equipment: LVADs, wound vacs/beds. In rehab setting patient turnover is quicker than the other two units. Patients have increased med‑surg acuity.
DMC Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan is one of the nation’s largest hospitals specializing in rehabilitation medicine and research. RIM is known for its clinical expertise in spinal cord injury, brain injury, stroke, amputee, orthopedics and catastrophic injury care. The Institute houses the Center for Spinal Cord Injury Recovery and the Southeast Michigan Traumatic Brain Injury System (SEMTBIS), one of only 16 federally designated model systems of care for brain injury care and research.
RIM also operates 31 outpatient sites throughout southeast Michigan specializing in sports medicine and orthopedics.
- Establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with physicians and other health care providers.
- Delegates, assesses, provides and evaluates patient care.
- Provides and delegates patient care activities to team members.
- Monitors patient progress and prepares patient for discharge.
- Reports directly to senior unit management and participates in shared decision‑making activities.
The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for managing and providing patient care activities for a group of patients and their families. This includes establishing collaborative relationships with healthcare providers, delegating care activities, and monitoring patient progress.
