Essential functions (job duties):- Provide advanced academic preparation and research training under the guidance of a supervising Faculty Mentor.
- Design and manage research programs, assist Faculty Mentor(s) in designing protocols, and supervise technical research staff.
- Write research grants, seek additional funding, and conduct independent research expected to result in scholarly publications and presentations.
- Perform technical laboratory and/or field experimental procedures and may assist in training undergraduate and graduate students.
- Assist the Principal Investigator in designing and performing protocols.
- Design and perform experiments, collect and log research data, and ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory and protocol guidelines.
- Assist other lab members with experiments, and may mentor research assistants and students.
- Find and write research grants, coordinate correspondence with applicants and grantees, acknowledge receipts of proposals, and maintain a proposal tracking system.
- Evaluate and perform preliminary analysis of data using graphs, charts or tables.
- Prepare and present presentations regarding research project results at professional, scientific and academic conferences.
- Summarize and organize data results for submission to peer‑reviewed journals and write scientific manuscripts.
- Maintain laboratory work areas, perform routine maintenance on equipment, order supplies, and keep the work station clean and organized.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Determine roles for oxidative stress‑related signaling steps in the onset of nuclear oxidative stress leading to beta cell death under diabetogenic conditions.
- Conduct proteomic studies to identify interaction partners of specific small G proteins (e.g., Rac1) and their signaling pathways in islet beta cells exposed to metabolic stress.
- Evaluate novel small molecule inhibitors of Rac1 in alleviating intracellular oxidative stress and beta‑cell dysfunction in a diet‑induced obesity animal model.
- Doctorate degree.
- Advanced knowledge in a field of science, predominantly intellectual in nature.
- 3 to 4 years of job‑related experience, including doctoral training and basic research techniques.
- Distinguished record in research, prior receipt of funding based on individual achievements.
- Ability to work independently and to secure grants and funding.
- Ability to collect, analyze, summarize, and interpret research findings, and communicate results clearly.
- Knowledge of scientific integrity principles, excellent time‑management and organization skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively.
- Microsoft Office software skills.
- PhD in Biochemistry, Cell Biology or Molecular Biology.
- Experience in small animal handling and surgery.
