Postdoctoral Scholar - Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology

The purpose of this position is to offer full‑time advanced academic preparation and research training to individuals who recently earned a doctoral degree.

Job Purpose

Postdoctoral appointments are designed to develop the scholar into an independent scientist and enhance professional skills for future faculty or career outcomes.

Essential Functions
  • Perform scientific techniques, assist PI in designing and performing protocols, conduct experiments, and collect and log data.
  • Design and write research grants under guidance of the mentor.
  • Coordinate correspondence with applicants and grantees, maintain proposal tracking.
  • Analyze data with graphs, charts, tables; prepare and present results at conferences.
  • Summarize and submit manuscripts to peer‑reviewed journals; proofread and edit research documents.
  • Maintain laboratory: routine equipment maintenance, order supplies, keep work area clean.
  • Mentor research assistants and students as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Unique Duties
  • Conduct research in reproductive sciences involving multi‑organ integrative physiology and immunology using in vitro systems, rodent models, engineered tissues, organoids, organ‑on‑chip platforms, and neurobehavioral assessments.
  • Bank and catalog biological samples; maintain research databases and project inventories.
  • Assist with grant application development and scientific reports.
Qualifications

Education: Doctorate degree in a field of science, e.g., Developmental Biology, Reproductive Biology, Physiology, Neuroscience, Bioengineering, Molecular Biology or closely related.

Experience: 3 to 4 years of postdoctoral or equivalent research experience, including basic research techniques and prior receipt of research funding.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Ability to work independently and collaboratively in multidisciplinary settings, secure grants, collect and analyze data, communicate findings, manage time and projects. Proficiency in molecular biology techniques, experimental design, statistical analysis, manuscript preparation, and grant writing.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with engineered tissues, organoids, organ‑on‑chip models, in vivo rodent studies, neurobehavioral testing, molecular and cellular biology techniques.
  • Experience with developmental, reproductive, pulmonary, or neurodevelopmental biology research.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, project management, and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
