Research Study Assistant (Hourly) – College of Nursing at Wayne State University. Detroit, MI.
OverviewWayne State University is a public research university. This role supports a year‑long research project on developing a personalized communication tool for families affected by early‑onset cancer. The assistant will assist in participant recruitment, data collection, data management, analysis, and dissemination of results.
Responsibilities- Recruit potential research study participants and obtain informed consent.
- Provide participants with study information and explain protocols.
- Collect data via interviews, questionnaires, tests, and review of health/medical records.
- Ensure data completeness and accuracy; compile, tabulate, code, and enter data into a database.
- Follow up with participants through phone or face‑to‑face visits; resolve data inaccuracies and collect samples as required.
- Assist with data cleaning, analysis, and summarizing research data.
- Create reports, tables, charts, graphs, and presentations to communicate findings.
- Assist with writing or preparing portions of grant applications and scientific papers.
- Maintain documentation in compliance with local, state, federal, and IRB regulations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Education: High‑school completion or GED. Bachelor’s degree in a science‑related field preferred.
- Experience: Entry level; research‑related experience preferred.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Empathetic, professional verbal and written communication with diverse populations.
- Fluent English reading, writing, speaking.
- Ability to present information one‑on‑one and in groups.
- Working knowledge of database software.
- Accurate compilation and analysis of complex data sets; creation and updating of spreadsheets, charts, and presentations.
- Completion of Advanced Qualitative Methods or involvement in a qualitative research study.
- CITI Training courses completed (required for research).
- Strong interest in qualitative research methods.
- Excellent writing, organizational, and communication skills.
Hourly wage of $21.00.
Working Conditions and BenefitsPosition may require travel to off‑campus sites, evening, or weekend hours. Additional benefits include standard university benefits and opportunities to contribute to meaningful research on early‑onset cancer.
