Research Associate – Chemistry
Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Research Associate – Chemistry at its Detroit campus location.
Essential Functions (Job Duties)Implement new methodologies and techniques to maintain a collaborative competitive research program using the Mass Spectrometry Laboratory, Lumigen Instrument Center (LIC), and the university, as well as train users and oversee day‑to‑day user needs. This approach will promote maximum research productivity.
Manage the implementation of targeted analyses and other operational activities of the Mass Spectrometry Laboratory. Specifically, the laboratory has three triple‑quadrupole instruments to be managed.
Train students, postdocs, and other individuals (including GRA’s assigned specific operational duties) to run the triple‑quadrupole mass spectrometer in a safe, effective, scientifically‑sound manner.
Establish a training procedure/course for users who wish to run their own targeted analysis.
Manage and assure that all OEHS safety requirements are met by all users.
Provide ongoing expertise for troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of triple‑quadrupole mass spectrometers. Assist in promoting the LIC’s capabilities to attract increased use from the university and regional scientific communities.
Provide internal management reports as needed. Assist in maintaining a collaborative database (Resource Manager, or its ILAB replacement) to ensure accurate usage and accounting records. Assist in providing a wide variety of statistical and administrative reports, summaries, surveys, and questionnaires regarding the triple‑quadrupole usage and users.
Perform other related work as assigned.
