Research Assistant (Hourly) – College of Nursing
Wayne State University, located in Detroit, Michigan, seeks an experienced Research Assistant to support laboratory‑based, clinical, or population science research in the College of Nursing.
Essential Functions (Job Duties)- Provide scientific and technical assistance to the Principal Investigator, including performing laboratory techniques, data collection, and analysis.
- Assist in writing research protocols, developing surveys, and recruiting participants for studies.
- Design and execute experiments independently when trained in specialized procedures, following legal, regulatory, and protocol guidelines.
- Collect, log, and analyze laboratory results and clinical outcomes, creating visual representations such as graphs and charts.
- Proofread and edit research data and documentation for accuracy and consistency.
- Support manuscript preparation, presentation materials, and conference submissions to peer‑reviewed journals.
- Maintain laboratory work areas, perform routine equipment maintenance, and order required supplies.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree (preferred) in a related scientific field. - Experience:
Entry‑level (less than one year of job‑related experience); experience with basic research techniques or working with human subjects is preferred. - Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to work independently and analyze, summarize, and report research findings.
- Familiarity with scientific integrity principles.
- Excellent time‑management, organization, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office software.

20 hours per week - Work Environment:
Laboratory and/or office; may require evenings, weekends, and travel to conferences.
