Research Scientist – Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology

Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Research Scientist to work at its Detroit campus location.

Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Research Scientist will provide scientific and technical assistance to complete laboratory-based clinical or population science research. The role includes assisting in writing research protocols, manuscript preparation, and designing and performing research protocols independently or with training.

• Find and write research grant proposals and coordinate correspondence with applicants and grantees.
• Perform laboratory-based scientific techniques, recruit study participants, develop surveys, and conduct interviews.
• Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and protocol guidelines for all research activities.
• Assist staff with experiments and research protocols as required.
• Collect, log, and analyze laboratory results, clinical outcomes, and survey data using appropriate statistical methods.
• Proofread, edit, and ensure accuracy of research data and documents.
• Prepare and present research findings at conferences and summarize data for submission to peer‑reviewed journals.
• Write scientific manuscripts and other documents for publication.
• Maintain laboratory work areas, conduct routine equipment maintenance, order supplies, and keep records organized.
• Design, implement, and optimize experimental protocols in reproductive sciences using in vitro systems, rodent models, engineered tissues, organoids, organ‑on‑chip platforms, and neurobehavioral assessments.
• Analyze and interpret research data, prepare manuscripts, and contribute to grant applications and progress reports.
• Maintain biological sample repositories, research databases, and project records in compliance with standards.
• Assist in training, mentoring, and providing guidance to research students, trainees, and laboratory personnel.
• Participate in laboratory operations, including equipment maintenance and coordination of ongoing projects.

• Education:
  
  Doctorate (Ph.D.) in a relevant field such as Developmental Biology, Reproductive Biology, Physiology, Neuroscience, Bioengineering, or Molecular Biology.
• Experience:
  
  Minimum 2 years of job‑related research experience with basic research techniques.
• Proven research record with distinguished publications or grant achievements.
• Ability to work independently and secure research grants and funding.
• Strong analytical, summarizing, and data interpretation skills.
• Knowledge of scientific integrity principles and excellent time management.
• Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills.
• Microsoft Office proficiency.

• Experience with engineered tissues, organoids, organ‑on‑chip models, and in vivo rodent studies.
• Experience with neurobehavioral testing and analysis.
• Experience with molecular and cellular biology techniques.
• Experience with experimental design, data interpretation, and statistical analysis.
• Experience preparing manuscripts for peer‑reviewed publication and contributing to grant applications.
• Knowledge of neurodevelopment, neuroanatomy, pulmonary development, or reproductive biology.

• Regular Employee – Full Time – Research

Typical work environment may include a laboratory and/or office setting. The position may require non‑standard business hours, evenings, weekends, and travel to scientific conferences.
