ResponsibilitiesThe Payor MSL is a field‑based scientific and clinical expert who drives payer‑focused strategy by translating clinical, HEOR, and real world evidence into value narratives that inform coverage, reimbursement, and access decisions. Key aspects of this role will include engaging in peer‑to‑peer scientific dialogue with healthcare professionals that translate into meaningful insight while serving as a therapeutic expert. In addition, the role may engage in peer‑peer scientific and health economic discussions with relevant health‑care decision makers (HCDMs) and influencers within US public and private health‑care entities, including but not limited to managed care organizations (MCOs), specialty pharmacy providers (SPPs), pharmaceutical benefit managers (PBMs), integrated delivery networks (IDNs), and other healthcare networks.

- Establish, cultivate, and maintain scientific relationships with KOL’s while developing a strong understanding of clinical practice as it relates to areas of interest to advance scientific and medical knowledge.
- Plan and execute medical strategy and engagement for appropriate assigned customer.
- Communicate clinical and scientific data to KOLs and healthcare professionals through presentations, educational programs, and scientific discussions.
- Serve as the primary resource to provide support for addressing unsolicited medical questions and other scientific exchange matters.
- Identify, gather, and document payer and field‑generated scientific insights to drive innovative Medical Affairs strategies while complying with industry and corporate policies and procedures.
- Maintain scientific and clinical knowledge base through continuous learning and awareness of related scientific literature to enable meaningful scientific exchange.
- Partner cross‑functionally with Medical Affairs, Market Access, HEOR, and Commercial teams to ensure aligned, compliant, and customer‑centric payer engagement strategies. Leverage knowledge of standards of care and company/investigator‑sponsored clinical trials and competitor landscape to facilitate external‑internal research communication.
- Respond to unsolicited scientific inquiries of Health Care Providers (HCPs)/investigators/health care systems/academic medical centers and treatment team members integrating scientific data including real world evidence into real‑life practice to meet customer needs.
- Deliver scientific presentations to formulary committees and other key healthcare decision makers (HCDMs), communicating the health economic model and supporting clinical data, and serve as the primary field‑based resource to address questions related to these insights.
- Demonstrate strong expertise in health economic model design and effectively communicate complex concepts in a clear, accessible manner to diverse HCDM audiences.
- Maintain deep knowledge of cost‑effectiveness models and budget impact models to support informed decision‑making and value discussions.
Along with a results‑oriented mindset, self‑assurance, and an engaging manner, the ideal candidate has:
- MD, PhD, PharmD, PA, NP, OD, or equivalent degree highly preferred.
- 5+ years of industry experience as a Medical Science Liaison required.
- Clinical or related practical experiences in ophthalmology preferred.
- Strong scientific & clinical acumen.
- Ability to quickly understand and translate complex scientific data and realize the potential impact of that data on clinical practice and potential research needs.
