Job Overview

Georgetown University’s Center for Brain Plasticity and Recovery seeks a full‑time Research Specialist 3 for its Pediatric Stroke Project. The role focuses on recruiting, evaluating, and analyzing language and cognitive function in children who have suffered an early stroke, and comparing outcomes to age‑matched controls.

Responsibilities
  • Recruit and screen potential participants from two major children’s hospitals by reviewing medical records and coordinating with neurologists.
  • Contact families to explain the study, assess interest, and secure consent.
  • Arrange and book family visits to the Center, including travel and lodging coordination.
  • Conduct neuropsychological testing and functional/structural MRI over a 3‑day visit.
  • Score and analyze behavioral and imaging data, applying statistical methods and experimental design principles.
  • Collaborate with a senior Research Specialist and faculty to refine test materials and protocols.
  • Produce data analyses and draft results for publication.
  • Assist with recruitment from additional sites in Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia.
  • Maintain detailed participant records and study documentation.
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in psychology, neuroscience, cognitive science, or a related field (Bachelor’s degree accepted only if compensated by extensive experience).
  • 5–7 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong academic knowledge of recruiting and testing neuropsychological populations, including children and adults.
  • Clinical and medical background in stroke or brain injury, with familiarity of experimental design and statistical analysis.
  • Excellent judgment, problem‑solving, organization, time‑management, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in interacting with children and their families, ensuring rapport and compliance during lengthy assessments.
  • Eligibility to work safely in an MRI environment; no pacemaker, aneurysm clip, non‑removable ferromagnetic object, or other contraindication.
  • Prior experience designing and conducting neuroimaging and behavioral research; training in neuroimaging may be provided to candidates with outstanding qualifications.
Work Mode

The position is designated as On‑Campus. Work mode designations may be reviewed in the future to meet the evolving needs of Georgetown University.

Pay Range

$47,586.00 – $87,558.13
