Job Summary / Responsibilities
Present a visible security presence to prevent criminal opportunity; perform patrols, maintain awareness, and take appropriate action to prevent or suppress activity contrary to hospital rules.Perform duties involving firearms when necessary, such as armed escorts/transports, bank escorts, mobile patrols, etc.Assist patients, guests, and staff by providing general information; provide access control by checking badges and passes; identify persons entering the hospital.Perform public service duties as needed (e.g., escort patients, guests, or employees; assist locked‑out individuals; open or lock doors; provide battery boosts; assist with restraints and lifting of patients).Investigate complaints regarding parking, safety, and security matters; prepare reports documenting events, investigations, lost or found property, hazards, and repair requests.Patrol parking lots and decks; ensure compliance with parking regulations; observe hazardous conditions; direct traffic as required.Monitor security and fire equipment (alarms, cameras, control gates, etc.); answer telephones and provide information to public and staff.Engage in additional education and training in criminal law, first aid, defensive tactics, and other relevant topics.Assist in releasing bodies from the morgue.Respond to emergency codes per hospital and/or security department policies.Promote the values of DMC through supportive behaviors, teamwork, effective communication, innovation, and efficient resource use.Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent and four (4) years experience in public law enforcement, military police or armed hospital security.Minimum of two years college coursework in criminal justice, security administration or related program, and three years experience in public law enforcement, military police or armed hospital security.Completion of State of Michigan MCOLES certified police academy and three years experience in public law enforcement, military police or armed hospital security.Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, security administration or related area with participation in security or law enforcement through an internship or volunteer work such as police reserve program.Valid State of Michigan driver’s license, eligible for coverage as a driver of DMC vehicles.Successful completion of Public Act 330 certification program.Concealed Weapons Permit (required).Facility Description
Children’s Hospital of Michigan is an international leader in pediatric and adolescent medicine. Surgical services include general, thoracic, reconstructive and cardiovascular. Imaging technology provides advanced diagnostic services including PET and MRI. The Emergency Department is a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and dedicated pediatric burn center. Experts in pediatric critical care, rehabilitation, and neonatal and perinatal medicine provide care for thousands of children every year at multiple sites.
