ResponsibilitiesJob Summary
The Security Officer patrols designated Honor Health properties, screens visitors, and performs activities related to safety and security of staff, patients, and visitors. May involve danger or risk of injury and restraining patients. Protects Honor Health property against theft, fire, vandalism, or other illegal, unsafe, or unauthorized activities. Conveys information clearly while maintaining awareness of safety protocols and security measures to ensure a safe and secure environment for all.
- Ensure a safe and secure hospital campus. Patrol assigned areas, check for suspicious activity or safety/fire hazards. Investigate and/or report hazards or suspicious circumstances to leadership. Check doors/windows and log any unlocked entries; submit information to supervisor/manager. Escort people or property to destinations when safety or property is a concern. Respond to alarms and dispatched calls and take appropriate actions. Unlock buildings/doors after verification of identification and policy compliance.
Enforce organizational policies (e.g., parking, smoking, badge compliance). Provide training to staff as needed. - Assist in emergency situations. Act as first responder to disturbances or emergencies such as infant abduction alarms, fire alarms, panic alarms, intruder alarms, or restraint calls on campus. Respond to urgent security calls promptly, which may require rapid movement of stairs, running, and handling heavy equipment. In emergencies, take charge of maintaining order, safety, and protection of personnel and property. May engage with hostile individuals and apply restraint equipment as ordered by medical authority and policy.
May assist law enforcement and security leadership with protection details, crowd control, and surveillance at large events. May assist in mass casualty security including setting up Decon equipment. - Investigate and/or document incidents. Document policy violations, maintain a daily activity log, and relay information as directed.
- Complete required training and participate in annual in-services. Engage in security department training and continuing education programs including Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Techniques and Self Defense, leading to certification in the use of specialized equipment.
- Represent Honor Health as a brand ambassador. Greet patients, visitors, vendors, and staff; assist persons on campus needing direction or information. Support other departments with guests who are detained. Collaborate with community partners.
- Associate's Degree or equivalent from a recognized college or trade school – Preferred
- High School Diploma or GED – Required
- 1 year of experience in a field related to law enforcement or security in a hospital or healthcare setting – Preferred
- Driver License – Required
- Non Clinical/IAHSS – Certification as a Security Officer – Preferred
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association within 2 months of hire – Required
- Taser certification within 90 days of hire by Honor Health Public Safety/Certified Taser Instructor – Required
