Duties
Joining the Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations, you will manage national programs to detect and prevent terrorists and instruments of terror from entering or leaving the United States. You will direct initiatives that strengthen the Department’s ability to perform homeland security.
Position salary: GS‑13, Step 1 $ to Step 10 $. The role is temporary, up to 5 years with possible extensions.
Responsibilities- Planning, leading, designing, and coordinating enforcement efforts with other program offices.
- Developing and deploying innovative strategies to prevent illegal entry of terrorists and associates.
- Promoting management accountability and operational integrity for border security initiatives.
- Overseeing anti‑smuggling, anti‑fraud, criminality, contraband, and other enforcement efforts, including identification, control, and examination of passengers and cargo leaving the U.S.
- Conducting quarterly checks of operational practices aligned with border security compliance measures for Self‑Inspections, Management Insurance Division (MID), and Management Assurance Reviews (MAR).
Experience
- 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, including pre‑arrival targeting, intelligence vetting, and use of law‑enforcement databases.
- Identification of terrorists, criminals, smuggling tactics, and threats to U.S. borders.
- Briefing and disseminating intelligence to management and front‑line personnel.
- Collecting and evaluating information to assess risk for entry of persons and goods.
Requirements
- U.S. citizenship.
- Male applicants born after 12/31/1959 must be registered with Selective Service.
- At least three of the last five years of primary U.S. residency.
- Background investigation and/or polygraph required.
- Passion for DHS and commitment to federal service.
Work may involve offices, aircraft operation areas, airline passenger and cargo areas, and marine docks. Outdoor work may occur in varying weather conditions. Protective clothing may be required.
TrainingComplete 101 days of paid training at CBP Field Operations Academy, plus 7–10 days of pre‑academy training and 14–17 weeks of post‑academy training.
