Security Officer, Site Security
The Enoch Pratt Free Library has an opening for a Security Officer. The Security Officer will enforce laws, rules, and regulations, and maintain order in the library's branches, departments, and surrounding grounds. The officer will work at various branch locations and a flexible schedule, especially late afternoons, evenings, and weekend hours. Work conditions involve occasional exposure to inclement weather and physical violence.
This position reports to the Security Officer Supervisor. Department:
Public Safety.
Location:
400 Cathedral Street, Baltimore, MD 21201. Salary: $43,882 to $52,188 per year. Job Type: On‑site Full‑Time, Benefits Included.
- Patrol Central Library and/or Branch Library buildings and grounds for safety and security hazards.
- Inspect library buildings (public departments, public reading areas, stacks, public restrooms, entrances, exits, parking areas, machinery rooms, roof, etc.) in accordance with assigned schedules.
- Make final evening check for security and closing of library buildings.
- Enforce Library rules and regulations; observe movement of people entering and leaving the building; maintain order among crowds such as Circulation Desk lines, door checker lines, and auditorium programs.
- Monitor CCTV cameras.
- Respond to alarms and calls for assistance and ensure that all breaches are promptly and thoroughly investigated.
- Write detailed reports as necessary (Daily log, Monthly Safety, etc.).
- High School diploma or GED.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- 3 years of experience in security, law enforcement, or military service.
- Experience writing incident reports.
- Possess a valid driver's license.
- Experience with MS Word and MS Excel.
- Requires commission as a Special Police Officer by the State of Maryland within 1 year from date of hire.
- Current Special Police Officer commission by the State of Maryland.
- Prior security, law enforcement, campus security, or military experience.
- Certification in CPR, First Aid, handcuffs, and/or baton.
- Experience with Johnson Controls or Simplex security systems.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of law enforcement principles and practices.
- Knowledge of arrest laws.
- Knowledge of criminal investigation techniques.
Knowledge of the court system and procedures. - Knowledge of the operation and use of security equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret laws, policies, and regulations.
- Basic computer skills and ability to navigate databases.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of people and agencies.
- Excellent writing and communication skills.
Standing and walking for long periods of time.
Various levels of physical exertion in response to public safety issues.
Position of Trust and TestingThose under final consideration for appointment will be required to authorize the release of and successfully complete a criminal conviction check.
Drug & Alcohol Testing:
Those under final consideration for appointment will be required to submit to drug and alcohol testing.
