Job Description

Install, modify, repair, program and provide routine maintenance on electrical systems, fixtures, traffic signals, HVAC electrical, electrical motors and control equipment for Bridge and structures (Department specific). Test and troubleshoot electrical systems. Work from ladders, scaffolds, lift trucks to maintain and repair electrical systems. Drive CDL equipment, maintain CDL with A and N credentials and aerial lift certifications (on‑job training provided).

Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble poles and install electrical conduits. Install controls and distribution apparatuses such as switches, relays, circuits, and breaker panels.

Other duties include making routine inspections of installed equipment and/or systems to detect hazards and needs for adjustment/replacement; constructing new and used controller cabinets and fabricating parts using hand tools according to specifications; building new and used traffic signals, re‑lamping, rewiring, building bases, and installing handholes; operating bucket trucks, trenchers, boom trucks and auger trucks to install and move traffic signal posts, poles, spans, equipment – installing underground conduits, hand holes, foundations and pulling in wire;

performing physically demanding tasks such as digging trenches to lay conduit or moving or lifting heavy objects, using hoists, hand lines, blocks and tackle to move, raise, lower poles; using a laptop to upload and download signal timings into controllers; planning layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures based on job specifications and local codes; using a variety of tools or equipment such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment;

performing other related duties and projects as needed; supervising or leading part‑time employees such as seasonal laborers and traffic signal mechanics. Electrical tools, power tools, cement tools, augers, specialty equipment such as bucket lifts and platforms are all provided. Must adhere to electric code and safety regulations.

Salary and Compensation

$75k to $83k per year annual salary. Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.

Skills and Requirements
  • Michigan Master Electrician or Journeyman Electrician License
  • 4+ years of experience as an Electrician
  • Open to working on traffic signals and related infrastructure
  • Comfortable working outdoors, at heights, on ladders, and around traffic signal structures
  • Willing to enter pump houses and underground confined spaces
  • Strong troubleshooting and repair skills (Diagnose electrical/system issues, perform repairs, and preventative maintenance)
  • Experience installing, maintaining, and operating electrical equipment such as wiring, control systems, signal equipment, and related infrastructure
  • Ability to read systems, evaluate performance, and identify improvements
  • Experience with equipment maintenance, inspections, testing, and quality checks
  • Ability to work significant overtime and on‑call for emergency repairs
