Metro Welding Supply, a family-owned and operated business since 1937, has grown to become one of the largest independent gas distributors and welding supply providers in Southeast Michigan. We are currently seeking an experienced Fleet Maintenance Supervisor / Diesel Mechanic to lead our fleet maintenance operation and help keep our delivery fleet operating safely, efficiently, and reliably.
In this role, you'll perform preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on our fleet of diesel delivery trucks and service vehicles while also overseeing the day-to-day operation of the maintenance shop. This position combines hands-on mechanical work with leadership responsibilities, including inventory management, shop organization, and budget oversight.

Position DetailsFull-Time | Monday-Friday | No Weekends
Compensation is negotiable based on experience, qualifications, leadership ability, and overall fit.

- Perform mechanical diagnostics, preventative maintenance, and repairs on company vehicles and equipment.
- Monitor DOT inspections and preventative maintenance schedules to ensure compliance.
- Maintain accurate electronic maintenance records.
- Perform roadside service and repairs as needed.
- Communicate with supervisors regarding vehicle availability, repair status, and maintenance scheduling.
- Source parts and outside labor when necessary while maintaining cost-effectiveness.
- Assist in improving maintenance efficiency and reducing downtime.
- Lead the day-to-day operation of the fleet maintenance shop.
- Manage parts inventory and maintain appropriate stock levels.
- Order parts and coordinate vendor relationships.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment.
- Monitor shop expenses and assist with maintenance budget and cost control.
- Schedule preventative maintenance to maximize fleet availability.
- Provide guidance and technical support to maintenance personnel as needed.
- Recommend improvements to shop operations, equipment, and maintenance processes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Previous diesel mechanic or commercial truck maintenance experience required.
- Strong mechanical knowledge and diagnostic/troubleshooting skills.
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
- Ability to lead by example and work effectively with others in a team environment.
- Experience managing parts inventory and maintenance purchasing preferred.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Basic computer skills for maintenance logs, email, and mobile applications.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
- Ability to lift heavy parts and equipment as needed.
- Strong attendance record and dependable work ethic.
- CDL-A is a plus, but not required.
- 8-hour shift
- Monday-Friday
- Occasional roadside assistance as needed
