Lift Maintenance Mechanic

Overview

The Lift Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and inspecting The Highlands’ ski lifts, carpets, and other rope transportation systems to ensure safe and reliable operation. This position performs preventative, scheduled, and emergency maintenance throughout the year and requires working in a variety of weather and outdoor conditions.

The following statements are intended as general illustrations of the work in this classification and are not all-inclusive of the specific position:

• Maintain, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair all chairlifts, surface lifts, carpets, and related equipment.
• Complete daily safety checks and prepare lifts for operation.
• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and diagnostic repairs.
• Inspect lift components including cables, grips, sheaves, bull wheels, safety switches, control circuits, brakes, motors, electrical systems, chairs, towers, and related equipment.
• Perform minor repairs and maintenance on electrical motors, auxiliary engines, brakes, and brake motors.
• Use technical diagrams, manufacturer manuals, and maintenance recommendations to properly service equipment.
• Follow all applicable ANSI, State of Michigan, and Federal safety requirements and regulations.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
• Maintain all required certifications, licenses, and training.
• Assist with lift construction, refinishing, lift operations, and other resort projects as needed.
• Assist with lift operations training when requested.
• Work cooperatively with Lift Maintenance and other resort departments.
• Demonstrate strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively in high-stress situations.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Lift Maintenance Manager.

• Minimum 2 years of lift maintenance experience required
• Strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills
• Ability to read and understand technical diagrams and manufacturer manuals
• Must understand and follow ANSI, State, and Federal safety regulations
• Must be able to work a flexible winter schedule, including days, nights, weekdays, weekends, and holidays
• Must be comfortable working outdoors year-round and in inclement weather
• Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs.
• Must be comfortable working at heights up to 50 feet
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
• Must be able to work independently and as part of a team
