Internship Overview
This unpaid internship is for Parole/Probation Interns in Field Offices in Regions 9-10 for the 2026 Summer Semester (May–August 2026). The internship is available in various counties and is designed to develop the competencies needed for a career as a Parole/Probation Agent.
Responsibilities- Review policy and procedures for MDOC
- Attend court proceedings related to sentencing, arraignments, and probation violations
- Assist in the development of pre‑sentence reports
- Report daily interactions with offenders and conduct offender home calls under MDOC staff supervision
- Develop parole/probation violation reports
- Utilize electronic monitoring supervision system
- Other projects as assigned depending on office specialty
- Assist parole staff in developing and facilitating job‑readiness and other support programs
- Track job placement and employment retention outcomes
- Provide research assistance and data collection on reentry programs, policies, and practices
- Collaborate with contracted prisoner reentry service providers, other law‑enforcement representatives, and community organizations
- Assist in administering risk assessments and developing case plans
- Identify and refer parolees to local community resources
- Participate in special assignments as directed by the parole supervisor
Application Requirements
- Must be enrolled in a college or university
- Have good written and verbal communication skills
- Minimum GPA of 2.5
- Must pass a LEIN background check
- Must pass a fingerprinting screen through the Department’s designated source
- Must pass pre‑employment drug screening
Applicants must be academically enrolled and pursuing a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, correctional administration, criminology, psychology, social work, counseling and guidance, child development, sociology, school social work, social work administration, educational psychology, family relations, human services, theology, or a related field.

Applicants who have been convicted of a felony may be screened out in accordance with Public Act 191 of 2017. Applicants convicted of a misdemeanor or felony are ineligible until satisfactory completion of any sentence, including parole or probation.
