Description

This position provides
leadership and operational oversight for the HVRP Employment Specialist team while also maintaining a participant caseload. The role focuses on helping homeless and at-risk veterans obtain and retain meaningful employment, achieve self‑sufficiency, and meet program outcomes.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supervising and mentoring Employment Specialists
    , including training, performance evaluations, coaching, and technical assistance.
  • Managing veteran employment services
    , including individualized employment plans, assessments, case management, job searches, resumes, interview preparation, and employment retention.
  • Ensuring program compliance and data accuracy through file audits, documentation reviews, VGRS reporting, and adherence to grant and agency requirements.
  • Supporting veterans using person-centered approaches
    , including motivational interviewing, strengths-based practices, and trauma-informed care.
  • Building community and employer partnerships to create employment, education, training, and support opportunities for veterans.
  • Monitoring participant and program performance and contributing to continuous quality improvement.
  • Handling sensitive situations professionally
    , maintaining confidentiality, exercising sound judgment during crises, and following agency policies and procedures.
Qualifications

The position requires a bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field, relevant experience with disabled populations, military experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidates should have knowledge of mental health, strong communication and organizational skills, relationship-building abilities, technology proficiency, and the ability to work independently with diverse populations.

A valid Michigan driver’s license, reliable transportation, and the ability to travel 10-20% for work are required.

The role may be performed on-site or remotely and involves regular computer use, sitting, standing, walking, driving, and occasional lifting of up to 10 pounds. Employees may encounter behavioral or medical situations that can present physical hazards. Pre-employment requirements include background screening, drug screening, and a physical examination.
