Position

The Corporate office of Smith Group is looking for an Application Developer to join our team.

As a full stack Application Developer, you will be responsible for developing, testing, refactoring, and enhancing back‑end services, APIs, and internal tools that support the company's staff and clients. You will collaborate closely with our services and data engineering teams in a fast‑paced environment to deliver robust, scalable solutions built on RESTful architecture and Microsoft Azure cloud services. We are seeking someone who excels at problem solving, thrives in collaborative engineering settings, and can design and implement reliable backend components that power critical business workflows.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in the full development lifecycle – requirements analysis and development of end‑to‑end solutions, including design, development, testing, documentation, deployment and support.
  • Develop scalable and reliable back‑end services using modern cloud and API standards, with an emphasis on performance, security, and integration across multiple platforms and systems.
  • Participate in technical design discussions.
  • Help maintain code quality, organization, and automation.
  • Take an idea from creation through construction and launch into production with minimal support.
  • Perform unit testing, debugging and troubleshooting.
  • Provide time estimates for development tasks.
  • Optimize and improve applications through ongoing enhancements.
  • Learn and evaluate new technologies and tools as needed.
  • Adhere to industry best practices and contribute to internal coding standards.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in an IT related field or equivalent work experience.
  • 5-10 years of experience in software development, with at least 4 years focused specifically on cloud‑based solutions (Azure).
  • Deep proficiency in .NET 6/8+, including Web API development and Entity Framework Core.
  • Proven experience building and deploying Azure Functions (Durable Functions is a plus), Logic Apps, and API Services.
  • Ability to write and maintain Python scripts or services, particularly for data processing or integration tasks within Azure.
  • Experience with asynchronous patterns using Azure Service Bus, Event Grid, or Azure Storage Queues.
  • Proficiency with Azure SQL, Cosmos DB, or similar cloud‑oriented data stores.
  • Minimum of 1 year of active experience using Git Hub Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar LLM‑based tools to accelerate coding, debugging, and unit test generation.
  • Experience managing CI/CD pipelines, Pull Requests, and Git‑based version control.
  • Understanding of Azure Active Directory (Entra ), Managed Identities, and Key Vault for secure application development.
  • Strong grasp of RESTful API design principles and OpenAPI (Swagger) documentation.
  • Excellent problem analysis, troubleshooting, and resolution skills.
  • High critical thinking skills to evaluate alternatives and present solutions that are consistent with business objectives and strategy.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently and effectively complete work assignments and projects in a timely fashion.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to reason and apply common‑sense understanding to situations encountered.
