Software Engineer, AI Engineer

Our client’s Technology team is seeking a strong software engineer to design, develop, and implement solutions that automate existing processes. This role will play a key part in building and scaling the core services that power enterprise-wide generative AI capabilities. You will contribute to initiatives that drive efficiency, enhance employee experience, and deliver business value through responsible AI. This is a fast-paced environment, and the ideal candidate is a self-starter who can collaborate across development and infrastructure teams to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues.

About the Role

Location:

Hybrid role based in Detroit, MI (3 days onsite, 2 days remote)

Contract End Date: 12/31/2026 with potential extension

Responsibilities

• Execute the full software development lifecycle (SDLC)
• Design and develop cloud-native, scalable services
• Create flowcharts, architecture designs, and technical documentation
• Contribute to system design across digital, security, infrastructure, and data domains
• Build frontend components using React, HTML, CSS, and Nuxt
• Integrate software components into fully functional systems
• Maintain and enhance existing applications through troubleshooting and upgrades
• Ensure alignment with project plans and industry standards
• Support ITIL processes and day to day operational engineering work
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship when needed

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in Python backend development
• 4+ years building REST APIs, ideally with FastAPI
• Familiarity with AI or GenAI technologies
• Strong AWS experience (certifications are a plus)
• Experience deploying applications on cloud platforms (IaaS/PaaS)
• Ability to collaborate with technical and business stakeholders
• Experience with Dev Sec Ops  tools such as Git Lab, Ansible, Jira, Confluence, and Dynatrace
• Experience improving scalability, reliability, and system performance
• Strong scripting experience with Python or Node.js
• Experience with Terraform and infrastructure as code
• Ability to design system architecture and technical solutions
• Leadership experience or ability to guide teams

Required Skills

• Experience with AI frameworks such as Lang Chain or Lang Graph
• Familiarity with tools like Claude Code and Git Hub Copilot
• Experience with observability tools such as Cloud Watch, Datadog, Dynatrace, or Prometheus
• Strong ownership mindset and ability to resolve complex issues
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Knowledge of ITIL processes and operational best practices
