Athletic Coach I Men's Football Assistant Coach
Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Athletic Coach I Men's Football Assistant Coach at its Detroit campus location.

Job PurposeEssential functions (job duties):
Wayne State University, an NCAA Division II member, located in the cultural district of Detroit, invites applications for the position of Assistant Athletic Coach I Men's Football.
Responsibilities will include administering all phases of the intercollegiate program including, but not limited to, the recruitment of quality student‑athletes; teaching and instruction of skills and techniques inherent in the highest level of competitive play; scheduling; organizing and conducting practices/competitions; budget management; overseeing student‑athletes'' academic progress; fundraising; community involvement; and compliance with NCAA, GLIAC and Wayne State University rules and regulations all while incorporating the department's strategic goals and on‑going initiatives.
EssentialFunctions
- Demonstrate an ability to teach and develop student‑athletes to represent the University and department with an emphasis on good character, a winning attitude and the professional standards expected by the department.
- Responsible for teaching advance level skills and game strategies.
- Assist in the planning, preparation, & scheduling of games with direction of head coach, including travel.
- Work with the strength and conditioning staff to develop and condition student‑athletes.
- Collaborate with training staff, academic resource personnel and compliance staff.
- Recruit high caliber student‑athletes with an emphasis on the urban setting and the University's strong academic standards reflected in its Carnegie I profile.
- Advise and counsel student athletes; work with the department's academic services unit to graduate student‑athletes.
- Adhere to NCAA and Conference legislative/interpretative requirements and understand ethical conduct and control.
- Maintain a positive and informed approach with the athletic department's many internal complimentary services including academic support, development, strength and conditioning, training staff and sport coordinator. Expected to be part of the unit's head coaching leadership profile.

Customer Accountability:
Interfaces with customers inside the S/C/D.
Freedom to Act:
Subject to regular review by supervisor.
- Education – Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred.
- Certification – Current certification in first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automatic external defibrillator (AED) use.
- Experience – Proven record of recruiting highly competitive and academically prepared student‑athletes; knowledge and specialization in intercollegiate coaching; proven ability to work with head coach to direct, manage and prepare an intercollegiate athletics team; strong team‑building and management skills; ability to collaborate with various university constituents; strong written and verbal communication skills; demonstrated experience in program development, management and leadership.
- Special Requirements – Availability to work evenings and weekends.
- Other – This is an AAUP represented position.
